SPRING PLANTING

Carrots, beets and green onions
What a gorgeous day!  We went up to Mammoth and had an incredible cross country ski this morning!  It was cold and clear and the snow was abundant and amazing!  We eagerly returned home to get some work done in the garden.  As is often the case, we had visitors (which was very nice) so didn't get quite as much done as hoped!

Harvesting carrots and beets

The weather warmed up here this afternoon and the afternoon gardening was as nice as the morning skiing.  We started with tackling bed number 7.  We harvested way more beets, carrots and green onions than we realized were lingering in the bed.  They all looked great!

After harvesting, we turned over the soil, added compost, raked it all smooth, set up the trellis and planted sugar snap peas.  I left one end open for lemon cucumbers again because those grew so well last year.

We also finally got to prune Joy (the alomnd tree).  She looks pretty good.  We just brought her home in late fall so we haven't really gotten to know her yet.  We did a medium to light prune on her to see how she grows.

We shared some beets with a friend and turned the carrots into a yummy carrot ginger soup.  We'll grill up the green onions and roast the remaining beets for dinner tomorrow night.

The flowers are starting to go off in the front bed.  We have half a dozen daffodils blooming and many, many more sprouting.  Tulips are sprouting and our first anemone is in bloom.
