DAMN VARMINTS!

Disgusting grub
Today I turned over bed number 1 in preparation for the tomatoes.  Hopefully we'll tackle bed number 2 tomorrow night. Unfortunately we have buckets of grubs in these beds still.  I smashed dozens while turning over the first bed.  I am hopeful this helps and they won't destroy our veggies.  They were present last year and didn't seem to cause much damage.  We are eagerly anticipating the  arrival of our tomatoes later this month.  Hopefully the weather is going to continue to warm up.

Fig tree after rodent attack
I also got an itch to unwrap the fig trees.  The second one Mission Black, I think, just spin as I unwrapped it.... sure enough it was gnawed through at the base.  Not sure if this is the work of a gopher or a vole but it is the second fig tree they've killed in this same spot.  I think it's time to buy a gopher snake!  The resident snakes don't seem to be doing their job!
