| Jim and His Onion Bed |
What a nice evening in the garden after work. After looking at Chuck's garden on Monday, we have been reading about onions to see why ours aren't growing like his. I think we must have planted them a little two deep and the soil has become a bit too compacted. Jim loosened the dirt around them this evening. We'll see how they go now. Hopefully this will give them a little more freedom!

Jim also poured fish emulsion on most of the veggie garden. Boy did that smell awful! This was our first dose of fish emulsion this year and I forgot how strong it is! We need to use this more regularly!

I trimmed up the dead and ailing leaves at the bottom of the tomato plants and buried the potatoes. All but two potatoes are buried as far as the bags will allow, if we want to do more, we will have to do so with straw. Those last two can get another dose of dirt in a couple of weeks.

I pulled the first planting of sugar snap peas (they were mostly done) and planted yard long red beans in their place. Can't wait for those! Did we mention the lemon cucumbers sprouted several days ago? It looks like a couple got chomped but several are looking fine.

Corn is Getting Taller!
Everything is really beginning to grow. Suddenly, it looks like a veggie garden again! AND... we got to harvest more arugula and sugar snap peas to go into our salad tonight. I was thinking today.... I don't think there was a single month this past year when we weren't harvesting something from our garden!
