First Carrots Garden salad lunch w/ first snow on Mt Tom
Gardening is hungry work so we needed to fuel up for the afternoon of work with a garden salad of greens (the only purchased veggie) with grated carrots, tomatoes, herbs, zucchini.... yum!
Today was the day we decided to finally give up on the potatoes! Jim was convinced I killed them months ago and it is time to turn over the bed and prep it for winter or next spring. I pulled off all the straw and decided I should look for potatoes.... just in case. Imagine my surprise when I found this:

First Potato
We were so excited by this find that we had to take turns digging and hunting for potatoes. What a pleasant surprise to find that we would have a harvest! It seems the straw was fine, but the lack of water was slowing things down. We have learned a lot this year including, water deeply!

I know that is a lot of potato photos but we are very excited to have a harvest! By all accounts this is a small harvest for a bed of this size but between the leaf curl virus and the watering issues, we are very pleased! It turns out digging up potatoes without damaging them is kind of a lot of work. Next year we will try potatoes in containers which we can simply dump out to harvest!

And of course, we have to wrap up with a yummy dinner.... Lasagne with zucchini noodles and butternut squash!!
