Telltale signs lead me to start hunting for the beast

So this is why you are supposed to check your garden every day!!!  We were out of town on the weekend and busy this week and the days were short so for several days we left before it got light and returned home after it got dark.... Now we have hornworm devastation on several tomato plants!  I pulled three this morning and know there are at least two more somewhere.  Where are the chickens when you need them??

Nasty monsters!!

Later today I found a fourth hornworm.  I am sure there is still at least one more out there.   They are incredibly difficult to find.

This morning there was more deer carnage!  They attacked the six packs of Johnny jump ups I haven't yet planted!  They ate the top of the new Kadota white fig and they decimated the little flowering plum trees last night.  We got all of these fenced in and put temporary fences around the little pines on the other side of the house by the creek.  We'll have to get more supplies before we can make proper deer fences for those trees.

Tonight before bed, Xena chased three deer away from the end of the driveway... GOOD DOG!!!
