We went to Chalfant Big Trees on Sunday and after about the 5th person told us how much fun it was to grow potatoes, we succumbed and bought seed potatoes. We cut them and let the callous for several days and planted them today. We dedicated one entire bed to potatoes and I suspect that might be overkill. We planted Yukon gold, red and russet potatoes, 3 to 6 to a row (crosswise) and in trenches, which we will fill with dirt as they grow and then finish off with straw mulch. This will be our first experiment with potatoes. I think we might try the trashcan method next year.
