BLOSSOMS AND SHALLOTS

Weeping Candied Crabapple #1
The weeping candied crab apples are gorgeous right now. Lots of thinks are blooming and leafing out.  Spring is such an exciting time of year down here.

The Japanese maples are starting to leaf out.  The bloodgood one (aka Youngblood) is beautiful with it's baby leaves all burgandy.

Youngblood and Jim

We've been trying since last Fall to find shallots.  Nobody local had them this year.  They've been promising they'd get them in February, then in March... it's April and still no shallots so Jim finally ordered some online and he just put them in the ground today.  We are still eating last year's harvest and could have probably planted some of those but we are enjoying them too much!
The onions are looking great!  They have finally rallied and are really starting to grow.  The weather has been lovely and warm and the days are longer.  We are also wondering if the fertilizer is helping but it's probably way too soon for that to have any effect.

We unwrapped Paula Plum today - even though we saw three deer just around the corner this morning.  So far nothing we have unwrapped has been munched.  Either they are moving out or the Dial soap is working.... It sure is stinky!
