Garden overview
After too much work and lots of trips out of town, we finally got a day back in the garden and it was lovely. We started by releasing most of the tomato plants from their walls of water. Most of these were growing so much they were either poking out of the top or the branches were bending due to crowding. They look pretty good and hopefully will keep growing like crazy. After being freed for a while, some of them laid down for a nap. We put cages around these and packed the soil around them to encourage them to stand tall. I'm wondering if we should stake them super straight to give the plants better structure....

Releasing the babies
Next we planted most of the root veggie bed. We sowed another row of beets, two rows of rainbow carrots and two rows of green onions. We saved room for rutabagas as we are out of seeds. Must be time to go shopping.

We also planted the last of the flower six packs as well as the herbs. basil, cilantro, oregano and thyme. last weekend we got the flower pots and herb garden out of the garage and in place on and around the deck.

Shallots, onions and garlic
Jim got busy weeding around the raised beds and also in the chicken coop/run area. The veggie garden is starting to grow like crazy with this warmer weather. The onion bed is looking really healthy as is the sugar snap pea, kale, lettuce bed.

New chilies
Maybe most exciting of all..... we planted all the new chili peppers we found in Sacramento! We have 21 plants this year with only one duplicate. We planted two Eisley wax plants because that was one of our favorites last year.
