| Jim and Xena planting more onions |
Today Evan dropped off a surprise delivery of more onion starts. This was very serendipitous as we had been lamenting the loss of several of the ones we planted a few months ago. We replanted the holes in the onion bed and then, because I had just read this morning that onions (along with marigolds, of course) were good for keeping bugs away from tomato plants....we surrounded the tomato beds with onion starts too. Hopefully we will have a surplus of onions and tomatoes this year.

I also planted our new Mission Black Fig tree today. Our gopher cage arrived so I dug a big hole, lined it with the gopher cage and planted the fig inside. Fingers crossed this will keep away gophers.... Unfortunately, I'm beginning to think it is voles which are attacking these trees and I fear they are small enough to wiggle through the cage. Time will tell.
