WEEDS, HARVESTING AND SOWING

Coffee on the bridge
Oh boy, spring is coming and the rains have been splendid.   Everything is turning green, the trees are beginning to leaf out, the lilacs are ready to bloom, the weeping crab apples are flowering and look absolutely lovely.  The orchard is blooming and we are just now noticing how much the trees all grew this past year... Not just in height but also in girth.  They are beginning to look like real trees instead of spindly twigs!  And, of course the weeds are growing so fast it's frightening.
Transplanted cherry tree
I weeded around the exterior of the garden this week. This weekend we started weeding the orchard and a bit by the ditch out front, and along the south tree line.... but it is so overwhelming!  We planted the cherry tree which has been hanging out in a pot while we figured out where we should put it.  It is up above the chicken coop to be (and that's another whole story).    The cherry tree looks great in it's new location!

I planted another row of sugar snap peas this afternoon.  It is perpendicular to the first row.  I also replanted the first row where the peas didn't sprout.  Planted the Napa cabbage in the pea bed as well.  They don't look so good after transplanting but they might rally.  Time will tell.

We spent a bit of time reviewing the chicken coop plans and site with a builder friend of Jim's... I got a bit overwhelmed by it all... It will be great once we iron out a few kinks in the plans.

Yesterday we put Tiffany to work harvesting veggies for dinner!
We harvest and cooked up bok choy and beets (and beet greens) and green onions for dinner.

Beets, beet greens, bok choi and green onion harvested today!
 YUM!
