WARMING UP AGAIN

After a rainy week or two, the weather seems to be warming up again.  Should be good for the tomatoes and chile peppers.  Both of which are showing more and more signs of leaf curl but are at least setting fruit!

The potatoes keep getting stranger looking but they are now forming flowers.  I have no idea if they have produced any potatoes or not.  We'll find out this fall.  The corn has many ears set and some of the tassels are turning red but the ears are still quite skinny.

The monster volunteer squash is setting more fruit and we are enjoying that as it produces.   We had grilled zucchini steaks for dinner tonight! It is fun watching the fall and winter crops grow fruit (onions and winter squash) but I am NOT ready to think about winter.  One of our crops of lettuce is all bitter and still not very big.  I'm thinking the weather got too hot.  we need to plant some more lettuce and arugula under the bean trellises where they should be at least partially shaded.

The first round of pole bean plants look oddly stunted but are putting out beans now.  The newly planted yard long red bean plants have all sprouted and are growing well.  The bush beans are growing kind of slowly.  Still little to no action from the parsnips, bell peppers and eggplant seeds we sowed.  MAYBE some tiny emergence of bell peppers and eggplants but I'm not totally convinced.

Something has begun devouring our rutabaga leaves so I sprayed again with BT this afternoon.  Those are looking almost ready to harvest.   The chard is looking ready as well, in fact it looks like one has begun to bolt.  We'll have to harvest chard and make a pasta!
