Busy and haven’t made any notes. Got the blackberries planted last week but
dried them out too much and they went very shocky…. Looks like they are
beginning to revive… pounded stakes into
the wells of all the fruit trees today and tied the ones that needed a bit of
training to grow straight. Working on
how best to do the deer fencing. I’m
thinking we need rings of fencing around the wells (about 15 feet in
circumference or 4-5 feet in diameter)… the other thought is that we can place
the ring of fencing within the well which would make it about 2 -3 feet in
diameter. I am concerned that the latter
dimension would allow the deer to reach over and nibble the leaves and brances. More research is required.
I am eager to plant our grapes and begin training them up
the arbor we bought for the garden gate but we had to wait till the fence was
stained (done) and the irrigation work completed enough that we can set the
arbor and dig the hole for the right hand grape (currently there is a big hole
in the ground there for the watering station for the veggie garden. Not sure how long till we can do this….
