MORE FLOWERS

Overview of garden with beds uncovered (and weeded)
Today, Jim set up the irrigation in bed number 3 so plant the final tomato from Chuck.  It is nice to have them all in place.   We are still looking for an early girl and an Ace 55 because those both produced abundantly and early the past two years.  We've saved spots for them and for one more determinant type as well.
Bed number 4 prepped for pepper plants
And ready for covering just in case...
Once this was done, we turned over and amended bed number 4 so it is ready to receive peppers as soon as we find them.  Fotrunately, we found only a very few grubs in this bed so it was much quicker to prep.  This bed is also now set up to be covered so we don't have to wait for the last frost to get our peppers planted.

Next we pulled the covers off all three beds which were going over winter.  This led to weeding and raking.  The garden is really starting to shape up.  Hopefully we can get to the old tomato beds one evening this week after work.  They are the only beds we haven't touched since Fall
Sorting seeds to plant in barrels
We were still feeling ambitions so we planted the new oak barrels outside the garden.  We planted Johnny jump ups which I picked up earlier this week as well as seeds for nasturtiums, snap dragons and short sun flowers.  If they all grow well these barrels will be spectacular!  They already look nice with the Johnny jump ups!  I just hope the deer don't much them.

And more
And the last ones.... good team work!
The finished product.... can't wait for the seeds to sprout!
Watering the new flowers

Speaking of deer,  we decided to run a little experiment.  We kept hearing that lifebouy soap will keep deer out of your fruit trees.  We couldn't find lifebouy but upon further reading learned that it should work with any smelly deoderant soap and dial was one of the recommended brands.  So today we unfenced the redbud which is bursting forth with blooms as well as one of our weeping candied crab apple trees and hung a bar of smelly dial soap in each.  I sure hope we don't regret this experiment!

A nice way to wrap up a good day in the garden!
