GARDEN VARIETY PREDATORS

Human predator harvesting Black from Tua Tomato

This morning we noticed something has been nibbling on (even devouring) the leaves on some of our fruit trees.  Mostly the Asian pear, plum and two cherry trees.  The leaves up to about 5 or six feet are looking quite munched, some gone some stems gone.  I would think deer but we haven't seen any or any prints around....  hold that thought.  I just went out to look again and I think I do see a couple of hoof prints.  DARN!  We will have to put the deer fences back up around each tree again.  I really like having them down...

This afternoon while walking through the garden we saw a big fat hornworm on our Poblano chili plant.  First one of the season.  I had been hopeful that all the marigolds and basil we had planted around the peppers and tomatoes were doing the trick but, alas.  We looked closely and saw no sign (poop or hornworms) of any more on any of our other plants but they are sneaky and well camouflaged.    We will have to inspect everything daily.

Black Beauty Eggplant... stay safe from the hornworms!!
