MINOR TENDING IN THE RAIN

It has been a crazy week of thunderstorms.  A good amount of much needed rain!  We weeded the garden today,  tied up the blackberries and added another round of fairy lights to the arbor.  The grapes are almost all the way to the top of the arbor already!  I'm wondering if it's time to hang bird netting over the berries.  We have lots of blackberries beginning to swell and ripen and another round of raspberries setting.

Saturday we went across the street and were sad to learn that Kathie's tomatoes are also showing signs of leaf curl.  They are now about the size our first crop was when it began to deteriorate.  These are also Chuck's babies.   The only ones she has that are not showing symptoms are some Celebrity tomatoes she picked up at Kmart.  More proof that the newer strains are more disease resistant than the heirlooms.  Fortunately, Chuck's tomatoes are in great shape (knock on wood).  I think he's more protected in his neighborhood.  We are open to public lands and lots of winds and neighboring agriculture.  I'm considering pulling the giant zucchini which seems to be a favorite for the white flies but I think the damage is already done, the virus is here,  I should just reap the benefits of the zucchini and suffer the leaf curl.
