May 31, 2015

What a gorgeous Sunday!  Sunny and warm (in the 90's today) with a nice breeze.  The creek is high and everything is growing.  I think the grape vines are growing a couple of inches a day right now.  The potatoes are making good progress too.  We'll probably have to cover them by next weekend.  We planted the mystery gift heirloom blood gulch tomato today and got the last cages built and erected.   We still need to plant the mystery gift Hungarian Wax Chile.  We got all the irirgation ugraded in the veggie garden today.  We still have one more bed to prepare and plant but can't bear to yank last fall's sugar snap peas as they are going gangbusters now.

I sprayed the tomatoes (many of which are developing something which looks like leaf curl.  I have to look that up next) with the last of the Neem oil.  I also sprayed the Fuji Apple, white and yellow peach trees and most of the asian pear with this.  Hoping to make up a batch of the baccillus thuringiensis to spray all the veggies with tomorrow or Tuesday.  We seem to have cut worm and other larvae in the soil eating things.  Hope this takes care of it.

This will be a challenging week to work in the garden as we have our big summer wounded warriors event running Monday thru Friday and it tends to mean long days... maybe I can do later starts and get some work done in the mornings.

Oh and we planted our second Autumn Blaze maple today. This one is across the creek by the Himalayan Pines (which look like they are doing very well).  It looks great there and we can see it from the living room, the soon to be expanded front deck, the back deck and the picnic table.  It will also provide some shelter from the street but probably not as much as the Himalayans will as they mature.  All in all it was a good weekend in the garden.
